It appears that the fishing boat party is a great place for field testing of a product. With a cross-section of fishermen, fishing with platforms similar outfits and baits in almost all the same place at the same time under the same conditions is a reasonable scientific laboratory for which to measure results fishery products. It was a windy, overcast day in mid-May aboard the Peconic Star, out of Greenport, NY. We undertook to test a unique new product called Esca Fluke to catch and it was perfectly logical that it would work, but I could not help being skeptical.
Well I knew that some equipment and Fluke Bucktails work better than others and I became a believer in the scented bait well, Esca is different. Esca, a Norwegian company, is a fish attractor of high technology the size of a quarter that emits flashes of light, imitating luminescence characteristics of bait fish and other squid. Several marine species have developed specialized organs called lightemitting Esca. Esca aims to draw light, and is used by major organizations in the sea, such as krill and squid. Esca is also the name of the light organ of the anglerfish. It has a long dorsal fin, as amended by a body of light at the end, which is the staircase itself. The angler fish lies motionless on the seabed using his esca to attract other fish.
When the prey is also true for the staircase, strikes monkfish and swallows all prey. For the monkfish, Esca is the ultimate lure. We thought that to Esca to be effective, it should be in the dark of night. But we were in the day fishing accident that we had to choose a place for it to be used in deeper waters, which is one reason why we decided to fish for Fluke with the Peconic Star, who was fishing in water as deep as 70 feet. We need enough depth for it to be dark for low light Esca be a factor. We also wanted to be in the Peconic Bay off Shelter Island, a place known where squid were typically found in mid-May, as are some very big luck. Capt. Dave Brennen of the Peconic Star had many fishermen line featured in The Fisherman reports and covers for years. Rigging Esca was unknown, so we had to improvise.
Esca is packaged with a triple hook with a skirt or calamari special. For a rig, we removed the treble using only Esca itself and sounds like a component a typical three-way rig. We tied the Esca in line with the hook swinging about 6 inches above the hook. Another platform was tied with the squid body, surrounded on three platform courses. We used to bait the crew of the Peconic Star offered: squid , Lancon harpoon. Current Wind / was heavy that day and we used 6 ounces more weight, but the rig did not twist or tangle. What is surprising about this book is that it really is a technological marvel.
The bait actually generates its own power on contact with water sea by electrolysis to Esca does not need batteries. The light-emitting Lure is disabled when it is no longer in contact with salt water. It lasts up to 100 hours of active fishing and can withstand pressures at depths up to 500 meters, which is good News for tilefishing and other Deep Water drop fishing. So, how'd we do? There were four of us fishing with platforms Esca that day and 25 other people on the boat. Many seemed to be experienced anglers and had a reasonable Pick shorts, fewer digits Fluke guardian and a waste of Robins Wed We were not so scientific, or so odious as to count all fish caught, but if you've already attended a boat, you know who is catching the most fish.
Obviously today it was the team Esca. We have simply taken more Fluke others on the boat that day, but more importantly, we seem to have a ratio much better goalkeeper. Believe me, we do not pretend fishermen not be better than anyone on that boat that day. In fact, Morten Bilet of Esca won the pool with the greatest stroke of luck! The kicker is that never fished before fluke. There is only one conclusion from what we experienced, Esca not give you an advantage when catching Fluke deepwater and deserves closer scrutiny, especially fluking ocean. Here's a thought, as a next step, I'll try to Esca Fluke night! Why not? I will also Try now for stripers, tilefish, cod, sea bass and other bottom dwellers. I am certainly intrigued by the initial results.
