Do you ski? If you're one of these delights in speeding down the slopes, then you know that a good pair of ski goggles makes a big difference in your performance. You must wear it. As in many other things on our way in the ski is determined by our eyes.
Going down a path slippery ice is no picnic. You'll be hit with snow, wind, ice, rocks and other debris. Imagine how vulnerable your eyes would be. Here goggles come in. They provide a physical barrier to protect your eyes from flying those things and allow you to see your way so you will be able to avoid uneven terrain, trees and even skiers.
The goggles that you select must not only look good. They must have the characteristics that best protect your eyes.
Ultraviolet, or UV, from sun does not damage the skin. It also hurts your eyes. Exposure to UV burns of the cornea and causes photokeratitis or sunburn of the cornea. It lasts two days at most, but the long-term exposure to UV causes cataracts and defects in the other eye. It is not only during the summer you are in danger of UV. We are exposed to it every day, sunny or cloudy. UV rays are reflected by snow.
Goggles should improve perception and reduce, if not control, fogging. They must be able to prevent at least 95% UV rays from your eyes. They should allow you to see or identify risks quickly as rocks and trees when traveling at high speed.
In selecting the right ski goggles for you, freelance writer Anthony J. Carter suggests that you take note of weather conditions and type activity you participate in. Make sure the ski goggles offer UV protection. Goggles must have attributes for anti-fog and ventilation. Choose goggles with double lens and a ventilation system that provides air circulation in the eye and minimizes the instances the mist. This also keeps your eyes fresh and rested. Water resistant glasses also minimize fogging.
Shades and colors of ski goggles have their functions. You just do not wear a certain color you're in the mood for. Light colored lenses provide more light in your eyes while dark lenses block some light.
According to Carter, hues and colors of ski goggles have purposes:
-- Bronze lenses provide better protection against UV rays and can be worn during sunny to cloudy conditions.
- Bronze Chrome lenses offer better protection in the sun.
- The transparent lenses allow light through so it is good for weather is low, such as blizzards and during the night.
- Chrome bright orange, bright chrome yellow or blue lenses offer the same benefits as the clear lenses offer while at the same time, leaving a little less light with a tint.
Writer Don Shalin says there are ski goggles have interchangeable lenses so you can choose the color lens you need. He advises trying on several pairs of ski goggles for a comfortable fit and try glasses with your helmet.
If you wear glasses, you should not attempt to adjust your glasses inside your glasses. Never, never tried the slopes without them. Mark Bowden notes that there are ski goggles that have characteristics of glasses. According to him, inserts and lenses can be custom made.
Finally, Carter suggests that you visit the Web sites and stores that sell ski goggles to discover the characteristics of their products.
