Spring is a great time to fish for northern pike in Canada. Pike spawn right after the ice melts in spring when water rises around 40 F.
After spawning Northern Pike get very hungry. Pike are naturally aggressive so they are just greedy this time of year. They will attack almost anything. I suggest keeping your fingers out of the water as much as possible, seriously. I saw a crack pike from the water to attack a silver spoon dangling next to our boat. Live bait works on the pike almost any time of year. If there are streams or rivers nearby, you can take a small device with a hook and a worm in place to catch creek chubs or other legal bait.
Establish a platform with a large cap, baited hook and sinker and throw it in areas where Pike should be hidden. Sometimes this method can produce a monster Pike is too smart to strike a lure.
