If you are a novice wishing to explore the possibilities of using lures to harvest white, striped, large and small bass mouth, the multitude of choices can seem daunting. But take heart. All is not lost.
While thousands of designs lure there, lures bass can actually be divided into 9 categories. They are:
Spoons
Jigs
Spinner-Baits
In-Line (French) Spinners
Crank Baits
Jerk Baits
Soft Baits
High Water
Flies
Spoons are exactly what its name implies. A concave oval slab of metal, sometimes painted, or sometimes not, with a hole for attaching a side line and a hook at the other. Sometimes they are made to be smoke-free for fishing fat cover.
They are very versatile because they can be Jigged, hopping, controlled, or simply fished vertically angled in. They usually action to falter, and can be augmented with rubber tails, bodies or pig skins to enhance their attractiveness. They can be caught deep or shallow. Spoons are most often used for shock in the vertical structure of depth, especially in cold water when bass are suspended and not very active.
They work best when bass are in the tight structure, such as along a creek channel. Bass often pack in these areas. The technique is to locate low suspension with a pollster, a jig, then spoon up and down in front of them. That's all there to do. Alternatively, spoons can be simply expressed, allowed to sink to the desired depth, and recovered right.
The disadvantages of spoons are limited designs available. No matter what color they are, a spoon is fundamentally a spoon. Some of the best known brands are the lures Daredevil, Worth, Little Cleo, Johnson Silver Minnow, Jigs, etc. are the most versatile on the market. They consist a hook with a molded head ahead of them. They can be covered with bodies of feathers and fur, a bit like flies, or have plastic all conceivable form placed on them, without removing the gauge line. This makes it very quick change of colors, sizes and styles on the water. Another type covers jig head completely, and are identified as decoys tube.
Even real minnows and live bait can be impaled on them, with very effective results. One of the lures top of the bar into deep water is called a Jig & Pig, which is a jig with the bodies of pigskin on them. They may even have small spinners on them to provide fill flash. Jigs can be controlled shed, reversed, Jigged vertically, and even fished in tandem, under a float, or without one. They can be caught directly in the heavy blanket.
Spinner Baits are simply a jig on a pin-type metal, bent at an angle of 90 degrees, with one or more spinner blades on the end of the line and a hook at the other. The walks lead head between the two. They can be dressed with feathers, plastic bodies or baits, and fished shallow, deep or Jigged. They are usually hunted and retrieved just under the surface near cover. They are very effective in the warm months. Models The most common are manufactured by Heddon, Strike King, and officials lure custom.
